Vince Young Loses Job as Titans' Starter, Reportedly Storms Out of LP Field

Vince Young has lost his starting quarterback position for the Tennessee Titans.

And Titans' coach Jeff Fisher said on Sunday that's true no matter the severity of the thumb injury he sustained in a 19-16 overtime loss to the Washington Redskins Sunday.

Young hurt his right thumb – on his throwing hand -- late in the third quarter, and played one more play before leaving the game. He was replaced by rookie Rusty Smith.

Young, who had the thumb taped in the second half and tried to throw passes wearing a glove, tossed his shoulder pads into the stands as he left the field.

"Vince tore a flexor tendon in his thumb and I was not satisfied with his ability to control the ball so I stayed with Rusty," Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean reported Fisher as saying. "He never said to me he was OK and wanted to go back in, and I was told he was a little upset after, and I was also told he threw half his uniform in the stands.

"Clearly, that is no way to respond, so we have some things we have to sort out with him. He may need surgery, and if that's the case, he is done for the year. If that's the case, Rusty is our guy."

Wyatt later reported that Young stormed out of the locker room following a postgame verbal confrontation between he and Fisher. Fisher reportedly gathered the team whole and while he did, Young was "throwing out expletives under his breath as he got dressed.

"Fisher told him to quiet down," Wyatt reported.

Young began to leave and Fisher told him not to walk out on his teammates, and Wyatt reported – emphasizing that he was paraphrasing – that Young replied, "I'm not running out on teammates. I'm running out on you."

As Young left, Wyatt reported that there were more words exchanged between he and Fisher.

"Young is done for the Titans this season, injury or not," Wyatt wrote. "I don't think he ever plays for Coach Jeff Fisher again."

Young later addressed the incident via his Twitter account:

"I just want to say I'm fine," Young tweeted. "Sorry to my teammates. I'm just competitive. Want to play. But God is great."

Young was chased into the LP Field parking lot by safety Michael Griffin, Wyatt reported via Twitter. Griffin later denied he had chased Young to the parking lot, but Wyatt reported Griffin was seen by "plenty of people."
