Hue Jackson has been promoted from offensive coordinator to coach of the Oakland Raiders, the team announced Thursday.
Jackson spent one season as the Raiders' OC and has been in the NFL since 2001. The 45-year-old Jackson was considered the favorite to get the Oakland job after the franchise opted not to renew Tom Cable's contract following the 2010 season.
Cable took over the Oakland job on an interim basis in 2008 and finished that season 4-8. The Raiders then finished 5-11 under Cable in 2009, before ascending to an 8-8 mark this season.
Prior to coming to Oakland, Jackson spent two years as Baltimore's quarterbacks coach. He had a one-year run as Atlanta's offensive coordinator in 2007 and held that same position in 2003 with Washington.
