The Baltimore Ravens dropped to 6-3 after losing their Thursday primetime game. Matt Ryan drove the Atlanta Falcons (7-2) down the field in 45 seconds to beat the Ravens 26-21. That was only half the story, however.
Baltimore was down 10-0 at halftime after coming out slow to start the game. Joe Flacco was ready to play, but the offensive line didn’t do a good job of protecting him. Flacco was hit on several occasions as left tackle Michael Oher looked lost.
Flacco did throw an interception, but righted himself quickly. He led the Ravens to a touchdown drive in the third quarter to cut Atlanta’s lead to 13-7. After the defense gave up another touchdown in the fourth quarter, Flacco led the Ravens to 14 quick points to put them ahead with just over a minute to go in the game. That’s when Ryan went to work.
With the Ravens up 21-20 and 80 yards to go, Ryan drove Atlanta the length of the field giving the Falcons the victory.
There’s a lot to take away from this game. The biggest being that Flacco can lead the team if he is turn loose to run the offense. Flacco has been developing over the past couple years and looks to be completely in control of the Baltimore Ravens.
The negative that can be taken from the game is the defense appears to be the achilles heel of the team. After getting a lead, the Ravens defense gave up 80 yards and the winning score. That has been uncharacteristic in years past, but seems to be the norm this season.
The Ravens will now prepare for the Carolina Panthers (1-7). That game will be played Sunday, Nov. 21.
